On December 5th, a school shooting occurred in the Palermo area of Butte County, California, resulting in two young children being seriously injured and one suspect committing suicide.
According to reports from the Butte County Police Department, the Los Angeles Times, and other media outlets, around 1pm local time on the 4th, the police received a call to report a shooting incident at the Fraser River Christian School in the Palermo area of the county. The police quickly arrived at the scene and found that two boys were in critical condition, and one male suspect had died. Evidence at the scene showed that he had committed suicide by shooting.
According to the latest police report released on the 5th, a 5-year-old and a 6-year-old child were injured in the shooting incident. Both of them are critically injured, but fortunately their condition is stable and they are currently receiving treatment at a local hospital. The police have confirmed the identity of the suspect, and their motive for the crime is still under investigation.
Local media reported that the suspect entered the school on the same day by appointment and met with school staff, claiming to be interested in applying for enrollment for a family member. The meeting went ‘very smoothly’ without any unusual concerns, but after the meeting, a shooting incident suddenly occurred, causing injuries to two young children in the kindergarten of the school. It is currently unclear whether the man actually came to apply for admission. The police analyzed that he may have launched the attack due to the Christian background of the school. The Butte County Police Department and relevant agencies such as the Federal Bureau of Investigation are investigating the shooting incident, and the school will be temporarily closed from the 5th.
According to the “Gun Violence Archive” website, as of December 5th, over 15500 people have died and over 29700 people have been injured in various types of gun violence incidents this year.
